How to Use Departmental iPods

Information on how to get started using Psychology Department iPods.

Psych IT has 2 departmental iPods available for you to borrow for short term (48 hour) test periods.  You’ll receive the iPod with a few sample audio and video files on it, but you may also download files of your own choosing to the device.  The iPod will be reformatted with sample files when it is returned to us.

To get started please follow the instructions below:

  1. Install and configure Itunes on your computer.  This is free and easy to do, though you can submit a helpdesk request to have us install Itunes for you.
  2. Contact Michael Miller via email (mmiller@psych.ucla.edu) in order to coordinate a time to check out the device. It comes with standard earbuds and a USB cable that connects the iPod to your computer.
  3. Download or view the iPod Features Guide
The IPOD may be checked out by any Psychology faculty or staff member but we especially hope faculty members will use it to help them evaluate applications like podcasting as instructional enhancements.  You can experience (as a student might) hearing or seeing podcasts of UCLA lectures as well as those from other sources using the IPOD.   The office of Instructional Development has collected a few podcasts here:

Right now there is only one class that allows unrestricted access to its podcast.  If you’d like to hear it on the IPOD look for the listing for Life Sciences 15 and click on the purple podcast icon.  From there you can select specific lectures in this class to save in your Itunes library to then transfer to the IPOD.
