How to set an Auto-Reply on Zetapup
How to set and use .forward and .vacation
We recommend either of the following clients:
- WINDOWS: FileZilla - http://sourceforge.net/projects/filezilla/
- MAC: Fugu - http://sourceforge.net/projects/fugussh/
You will need to place some files in your home directory on the mail server in order to activate the auto reply and having these tools ready to go will ease the process.
1) Contact Psych IT to obtain the "Away" bundle of 4 files and put them in their own directory on your personal network space. We suggest you name the directory “Away”. The files needed are:- .forward
- .vacation.dir
- .vacation.msg
- .vacation.pag
2) Using Notepad or any other plain text editor open the file called “.forward” and edit it to include your username information. The file is made up of a one line instruction. It tells zetapup where to find your auto-reply file. Replace both instances of “dawnc” with your own username. Make only this change – nothing more, and save the file in the “Away” directory.
\dawnc, "|/usr/bin/vacation dawnc"
3) Using Notepad open the file called “.vacation.msg”. Edit the text accordingly. Here is an example:
Subject: away from my mail
I will out of the office on
Monday, May 21 and will not read
your message that day. Your mail
regarding "$SUBJECT" will
be read when I return on May 22.
Thank you,
4) Be sure to SAVE the file with the exact same name. Don’t let it become a .txt or any other sort of file! Keep it in the "Away" directory.
5) Using your SFTP client upload the 4 files (not the directory!) from your “Away” directory to your home directory on zetapup.
NOTE: files with . in front of them are usually treated as "hidden files". You may have to set your Windows or Mac to "view hidden files"
